Pro-Activity Works Wonders!
by J.R.(Jay) Perry

I have just had one of the best weeks ever. It started on the Monday with a phone call from a client. "I just called to brag a little!" is what he said in response to my inquiry as to the nature of the call.  He has been working very hard implementing the course philosophy. This pro-activity has been paying off,

big time!

Instead of whining like so many of the other members of the community (see Summer 1998 Newsletter), Gary has been taking on the responsibility of running his shop as a business. Being prepared with the appropriate "P’s" of Profit, Presentation, Promotion & Production.

Gary knows the successes are coming to him, our client, based upon practicing good business, employing the best methods as introduced in the course, staying in the method taught -with every customer, employee and potential referring contact! (See the client success for some of the latest results).

It only gets better. Another call was received later this week. Ernie was asking how the principles taught were to apply in a certain situation that had arisen. After we had dealt with the issue, I asked "How are things and how the previous month close out?"

"Fantastic!" was the response. The Average ticket price continues to climb with no increase to the overhead. Ernie’s pro-activity has helped him record the best month in the history of the company!

Joel is having the best year ever!
Cris has improved profitability!
Jim has a closing ratio no one would believe!

On & on. Pro-activity, hard work & dedication pay off!

None of the above whines, supports the whining or associates with the whiners. They are on a different road, the pro-active one to success!

Small Things Make a BIG Difference

Everyone knows that "word of mouth" is the best advertising. How can you create more of it?

Amplify your efforts through your employees, draw them into the responsibility of promotion of the shop. You have cards that you freely distribute with your name, title, personal phone numbers, maps or other pieces of info to make it easy to contact you.

Employees can be proud if their cards contain their personal name, title and other info that they give you permission to print.

Another use of cards is to personalize your own cards with a

phrase on the back such as;

"The Bearer of this card is an associate of Joe Blow, Owner of The Oil Spot"

Supply these cards to contacts that regularly refer work to you (dealer contacts, garages, towing company drivers, etc.).

They are inexpensive. Talk to your printer or use your computer to produce professional looking cards utilizing pre-dyed card stock.

Another benefit is it also assists you in being able to track your referrals and knowing from where the help is coming.

Not two minutes ago I finished a conversation with a new customer, one that was sent to us with a "bearer" card. Pro-activity, it really works!!
